II - MOUNTING, DISMOUNTING, RUNNING IN For a tyre
In all cases, it is essential to refer to the technical instructions of the tyre manufacturer, vehicle manufacturer and wheel manufacturer, as well as the user manuala for the tyre-fitting machinery or equipment. If the rim shows evidence of damage, the tyres must be deflated prior to removal of the whole fitment
For On Road usage, new tyres require a period of bedding in before normal use. Michelin suggests that riders start slowly and use gentle acceleration and braking and low lean angles to bed the tyres in, gradually increasing the demands on the tyres until you become accustomed to the performance of your new tyres in conjunction with your motorcycle. We recommend at least 60 miles / 100 kms for this process. This applies to all our motorcycle and scooter tyres.
For track usage tyres (NHS and road legal), after NEW tyres fitting, or at the beginning of each session , Michelin advises to - With tyrewarmers: maintain the temperature with sufficient hard use from the start. - Without tyrewarmers: riders should start more slowly and use more gentle acceleration and braking and lower lean angles to bed the tyres in, gradually increasing the demands on the tyres until you become accustomed to the performance of your new tyres in conjunction with your motorcycle.
For the «Rain» NHS tyres, after NEW tyre fitting and at the beginning of each session, avoid overly strong acceleration, braking and cornering. Gradually increase the running pace in order to become accustomed to the available grip limits which are reduced when compared to dry conditions.
- Unscrew the valve and allow the tyre to deflate completely. - Break the seal between the tyre beads and the rim and lubricate the rim and beads. - Remove the tyre using two tyre levers. Replace your tyre if the tyre depth is at the level of the tread wear indicator (which complies with regulation at 0,8mm) ; you can easily find the tread wear indicators with the small Bibendum icons located on the shoulder of the Michelin tyre.

BEAD UNSEATING OPERATIONS: Put the tyre/rim assembly on the machine Unscrew the valve core in order to allow the tyre to deflate completely Manually position the wheel so that the valve is not aligned with the bead breaking blade Break the seal between the tyre bead and the wheel rim by pushing with the bead breaker Lubricate both the tyre bead and the wheel rim seat Repeat the operation all around the tyre if necessary manually turn the tyre/rim assembly and repeat the operations for the opposite side
DEMOUNTING OPERATIONS: Position the tyre/rim assembly on the mounting machine table and secure the rim with the 4 automatic hooks. Adjust the mounting head of the machine relative to the edge of the rim (leave 2/3 mm clearance to avoid damaging the rim). Position the valve near the mounting head of the machine to avoid damage during demounting. Use a tyre lever and the mounting head of the machine and rotation of the table to remove the first bead of the tyre. For a Tube-type tyre/rim assembly, remove the inner tube. Proceed in the same way to remove the second tyre bead.
MOUNTING OPERATIONS: Position the rim on the mounting machine table and secure the rim with the 4 automatic hooks. For Tube-type tyre/rim assembly, for safety reasons, it is recommended to use a new inner tube that should be inflated very lightly before introducing into the tyre to avoid pinching or creasing the tube during mounting.
Adjust the mounting head of the machine relative to the edge of the rim (leave 2/3 mm to avoid damage to the rim with the mounting head of the machine). Position the valve near the mounting head of the machine so that the valve won t be damaged during the mounting steps. Lubricate both the tyre beads and the wheel rim seats. Place the lower tyre bead into the well of the wheel rim and use the mounting head of the machine and the rotation of the table to fully drop the lower tyre bead into the well of the wheel rim.
Use a tyre mounting lever to place the top bead correctly for the mounting head of the machine and use the rotation of the table to mount the top bead. Manually ensure that the opposite side of the bead to the mounting head is pushed down into the well of the wheel rim during this operation.
For Tube-type assembly, manually check that the inner tube is not pinched between the tyre beads and the rim seats and use three good quality tyre levers to mount the tyre. Take care to avoid pinching the inner tube with the tyre levers and ensure that the opposite side of the bead is sitting in the well of the wheel rim while levering small sections of the tyre bead into place.
INFLATE THE TYRE: Without the valve core, apply a primary pressure of up to 3.5 bars (51 PSI) to ensure that both beads are fully seated. Check the tyre fitting line on both sides of the tyre show that the tyre is correctly and evenly centered around the whole tyre. Replace the valve core, adjust to the recommended pressure and fit the valve cap.
