Checking Motorcycle Tire Wear
A Simple Yet Essential Step for Your Safety
WHY SHOULD YOU CHECK
YOUR MOTORCYCLE TIRE WEAR ?
HOW TO CHECK YOUR MOTORCYCLE TIRE WEAR
Over time and mileage , motorcycle tires naturally wear down . Keeping an eye on their wear is a simple but
crucial habit : it helps ensure your safety , maintains your bike ’ s performance , and keeps you aligned with the legal
requirements in your country .
Worn tires can :
• Reduce grip , especially on wet roads .
• Increase braking distances .
• Raise the risk of losing control .
• Be more vulnerable to punctures and impacts .
Regularly checking tire wear is essential for safe riding .
All MICHELIN motorcycle tires approved
for road use are equipped with tread wear
indicators , that are 0 . 8mm high , directly
integrated into the tread pattern .
Tip The Michelin Man symbol found on the
edge of the tread makes it easy to locate the
wear indicators
For MICHELIN motorcycle tires not approved
for the road , the wear indicators appear as
small cavities in the tread . Slick tires have six
indicators : three on each side , spaced 120 °
apart . Supermoto tires have eight indicators :
four on each side , spaced 90 ° apart .
